NHL Rumours: Boston Bruins Centre Depth Could Be Addressed

Welcome to another edition of NHL Rumours! Christmas is so close and it will be good for certain teams to have the break. For others, they hope the momentum they’ve built up doesn’t slow down. There is a lot to be thankful for and to look forward to. Today’s Rumours swirl around the Boston Bruins and their centre depth.

Rumour: Elliote Friedman on 32 Thoughts discusses the center position for the Bruins

This has been a recurring theme since the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. The loss of those calibre players is beginning to catch up to them, as they’ve had trouble finding consistent scoring. Also, head coach Jim Montgomery has consistently tried to change the lines in order to find a spark. The depth down the middle for the Bruins is not bad by any means. However, having a true top line centre goes a long ways for this contending team.

Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames is going to be a hot commodity at the trade deadline. Friedman has linked the Bruins to the centre but makes a point as to why it would be tough to acquire him.

Boston does not own a first or second round pick in the upcoming draft, so that leaves them with little assets to part with. Making any sort of impactful deal will be hard to come by. The Bruins are sitting in a good place right now but adding a high caliber centre would be a huge boost to the lineup.

This set of NHL Rumours are warranted but they are fortunate for centre Matthew Poitras. He has shown tremendous effort and has been a bright spot in the lineup. He is just 19 years old, so expecting a rookie to save you isn’t the answer.

Making a big splash will be tough for Boston but the buzz around Lindholm remains hot until the trade deadline.
