NHL Predictions

Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is the Carolina Hurricanes vs Edmonton Oilers. Be sure to check out more NHL predictions in the coming days.

NHL Predictions

Dallas Stars vs Florida Panthers

Head-to-Head: Stars 0-0 Panthers

TV: TNT; Max

Our first game of NHL predictions has the Dallas Stars taking on the Florida Panthers. Dallas was shutout the last time out against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Jake Oettinger is the projected starter, but always check social media before locking in a fantasy goalie. The Stars have been fairly inconsistent over the last few games when it comes to goal-scoring. Joe Pavelski and Jason Robertson are the two top scorers for the Stars.

The Panthers will likely counter with Sergei Bobrovsky in between the pipes. Florida has also lost three of its last five games and offence has also been a problem in losses. Sam Reinhart has 16 goals to pace the Panthers while Matthew Tkachuk has 15 assists. Both teams are in the top six when it comes to goals allowed.

These teams are almost a mirror-image of each other, but we’ll go with the home side in this.

Prediction: Panthers win 3-2.

Vegas Golden Knights vs St Louis Blues

Head-to-Head: Golden Knights 0-1 Blues

TV: Bally Sports Midwest; Scripps; ESPN+

The Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights take on the St Louis Blues in this Western Conference matchup. Logan Thompson is the projected starter in this one for the Golden Knights, who have losses in three of the last five. Vegas is third in goals allowed and fifth on the penalty kill. William Karlsson has been solid this season as well as Jack Eichel.

Jordan Binnington is the likely starter for the Blues, who are coming off a 2-1 win over the Knights last time out. Robert Thomas has been continuing his solid play for St Louis this season. However, the Blues power play has been struggling at 31st.

This could be a game where the under comes into play, but we’ll go Vegas in this.

Prediction: Golden Knights win 3-1.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Edmonton Oilers

Head-to-Head: Hurricanes 1-0 Oilers

TV: TNT; Max; Sportsnet and Sportsnet One

Our final and featured game of NHL predictions has the Hurricanes go for the season-sweep of the Oilers. Antti Raanta is projected to get the start in the crease for Carolina. The Canes have wins in three of the last five, but are coming off a loss last time out. Teuvo Teravainen is the club’s leading goal-scorer with 11 so far.

Edmonton has wins in four straight games and Stuart Skinner is the likely starter. The Oilers know they have to string wins together in order to overcome a poor start. Connor McDavid may not be up to 10 goals yet, but he’s been making plays and leads in assists with 21. Edmonton’s power play is always dangerous with playmakers like Leon Draisaitl.

The Oilers have a solid offence, but the Canes have a great defence.

Prediction: Hurricanes win 4-3.

Prop Bet of the Night

Let’s stay with the last game of the night and the Oilers power play. We like Edmonton converting at least once on the extra man and that’s our prop of the over on 0.5 power play goals. It’s more of a testament to how good Edmonton has been on man-up situations in recent games.
