Trent Frederic Signs New Contract With Boston

Trent Frederic has a new contract with the Boston Bruins. The pending restricted free agent is locked up for the next two years and has an AAV of $2.3 million. Don Sweeney’s work is progression with a tall task at hand with the recent retirement of superstar Patrice Bergeron

Frederic Has New Contract In Boston

Trent Frederic has a new contract to remain in Boston. Like other younger guys on the team, he had a career year for the club. Not to mention he went from being a fourth-line bruiser to a contributing third-line winger. Originally taken in the first round of the 2016 NHL draft, Frederic is beginning to show why he was taken at that spot. In addition, a career season is showing why.

What This Means For The Bruins

The Trent Frederic contract signals what the future of Boston Bruins hockey is to be. With the changing of the guard happening, the goal is to get younger. A new wave of hockey is underway in Boston and is led by Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak. Frederic is not the same calibre of talent as those two, but he brings elements to his game that work in this system. Given his age, he fits the mould and becomes a complimentary piece to the puzzle.

Why Frederic Deserves The Contract

Trent Frederic deserves this contract. The rugged winger had a career year production-wise and emerged as a more complete player. He forechecks hard, has found his scoring touch, and plays a style that fits what Jim Montgomery likes to do. In addition, with centre Charlie Coyle while also playing with Taylor Hall.

Frederic scored 17 goals, 14 assists, and 31 assists. His goal totals is five more than the last two seasons combined. Frederic brings that physical edge (105 hits). He was credited with 24 takeaways showing he has the tools to contribute at both ends of the ice. Overall this is great for the Bruins and Frederic.
