Ottawa Senators Trade Alex DeBrincat

The wait is finally over. The Ottawa Senators have traded Alex DeBrincat. After all the rumours surfaced, the Detroit Red Wings are acquiring the winger. Going to Ottawa is a pair of draft picks, Dominik Kubalik, and Donovan Sebrango. Once he was placed on the trade block, this deal is good for both sides.

DeBrincat Traded To The Red Wings

This is a great deal for both sides. Optimism was held high after Ottawa acquired him from the Chicago Blackhawks. However, after contract negotiations went sideways, moving on from the player was the correct me. DeBrincat gets his wish and has landed with Detroit. Ottawa can move forward with its current core group and Detroit is getting a quality talent.

Why Acquiring DeBrincat Makes Sense

It is a shame things did not workout in Ottawa given the shape of their team. But sometimes good things come to an end. Whether you are a contending team or a rebuilding team, having quality scoring talent goes a long ways. You can never have too much depth especially if you are contending or pushing to be better. And that is exactly what the Detroit is getting with Alex DeBrincat. DeBrincat had tremendous offensive upside and a wicked shot. His ability to generate scoring chances and finishing ability make him an attractive piece. Throughout his career, he has proven to be a consistent scorer and high-point producer. This past season, he tied his career high in goals (27) and finished with 66 points. His expected goals of 28 was fourth on the roster and he went on to score at his expected rate.

The organization is getting quality talent and a premiere scorer. He fits the bill for what they need going forward. In a league littered with goal-scoring, DeBrincat fits the bill. It should be really fun to watch next season alongside Dylan Larkin.
