Carolina Hurricanes Sign Frederik Andersen to New Contract

The starting goalie is sticking around. Frederik Andersen has signed a contract with the Hurricanes. He is locked in for the next two years and has an AAV of $3.4 million. This is great for him and the team as they know what they are getting with him in net.

Andersen Signs Contract

After being in the spotlight with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Andersen found a new home with the Carolina Hurricanes. Despite battling injuries over the two seasons he spent there, he was brilliant in the net. You know what you are getting with Andersen in net and that makes this contract worth it for the club. With the league seeing 1A/1B tandems, Andersen is the perfect piece in the net. This is a role he is familiar with in Carolina and can replicate that success again with Antti Raanta who is also sticking around.

Why Andersen Is Worth The Contract

The Frederik Andersen contract is worth every penny. Finding quality goaltenders is never an easy thing to find. Regardless of how well the Carolina Hurricanes defended, Andersen did his part. A lot of times you can make a case the structure in front of them makes for a good goalie, but with Andersen he was good. He finished with a 2.48 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. But he elevated his play in the playoffs.

Arguably this was the best playoff performance he has delivered. Andersen did not start the playoffs, but once he took over the crease, he was sensational. He finished the playoffs with a 1.83 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. In addition, his 5.7 goals saved above expected was among the best. Andersen is a proven goaltender with a good resume and provides stability to the crease. This is a great contract for both parties.
