New Jersey Devils Sign RFA Forward To Contract

The biggest prize that landed in the Garden State is here to stay. Tom Fitzgerald has given Timo Meier a new contract. Meier will remain with the New Jersey Devils for the next eight years and carries a cap hit of $8.8 million per season. This is a great deal for both sides.

Meier Signs Contract To Remain With Devils

This is music to Tom Fitzgeralds’ ears. After spending last summer trying to lure in Johnny Gaudreau and attempting to trade for Matthew Tkachuk, Fitzgerald finally landed his prize. At the trade deadline, he struck a deal with Mike Grier and acquired him from the San Jose Sharks. Meier was the type of player this young Devils team was missing. Luckily, he is staying put and helping join this core group.

The Future Of The Devils

The Timo Meier contract is a great thing for the Devils. Meier himself was worthy of a raise. You can nitpick his production, but Meier made an impact on the Devils from the jump. Meier finished with the sixth-best Corsi For on the team. Just in his small sample size, his ability to get shots through without getting blocked. He has a nose for the front of the net and the high danger area. Meier was arguably the best forward during the playoffs. Meier did get settled in and once he did he was the perfect Devil.

The future is bright in New Jersey. A core group of Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes, Timo Meier, and Dougie Hamilton will be fun to watch for years to come. After making the playoffs and having a historic season for the franchise, the future is bright. Not to mention promising prospects will be on the roster. The window just cracked open for the club and Meier gets to be part of it.
