It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours to start the week. The Toronto Maple Leafs have been fairly busy since they were eliminated by the Florida Panthers in round two. Brad Treliving is the new general manager replacing Kyle Dubas. However, Treliving will have to make some tough roster decisions this coming off-season. There are a number of players that are restricted and unrestricted free agents this coming on July 1. The edition of NHL rumours deals with the Michael Bunting future with the club.
All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Michael Bunting Future Update
Rumour: Sportsnet’s Luke Fox took a look at the top 12 UFAs in the coming off-season. Bunting appeared on the list at the ninth spot. The 27-year-old is looking for a raise from his $950,000 salary. Bunting has gotten back-to-back 23-goal seasons for the Leafs. He’s also a Scarborough, Ontario native and loves playing for the team.

Bunting’s agent, Paul Capizzano, said his client would be willing to take a longer-term deal in order to keep the cap hit in check. However, no meaningful negotiations were started between the two sides. Bunting also has a good relationship with star Auston Matthews, who can get an extension on July 1. Despite wanting to stay, it seems that a return to Toronto is very unlikely.
Where Does the Michael Bunting Future Lie?
Treliving has plenty of things to do this off-season. Bunting is open to returning like a number of players. However, that seems to be low on the priority list. The Leafs have to figure out what to do with their core four of players. Toronto also has to find a way to sign goalie Ilya Samsonov to a new contract.
The Leafs did get past the first round for the first time since 2004. However, the fan base wants to go further. Bunting may not be part of the ride for the future.
