It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours. The Calgary Flames have made some changes with a new general manager in Craig Conroy. However, those may not be the only changes that are coming this off-season. The Flames have to do some salary cap manipulation like many teams do. Calgary has some tradeable assets to help shape their lineup. Today’s NHL rumours looks at a possible Dan Vladar trade.

Dan Vladar Trade Possible
Rumour: The Daily FaceOff’s Mike Gould took a look at the Calgary Flames goaltending situation. Calgary has Jacob Markstrom has the starter and Vladar was a very capable backup. However, there’s prospect Dustin Wolf ready for more time at the NHL level. Wolf is the reigning AHL goalie of the year from his time with the Calgary Wranglers.
Vladar currently makes $2.2 million per season with the last year of his deal coming at the end of the season. Markstrom currently makes $6 million per season and has three years left on his contract. Moving Markstrom’s contract would be much harder than trying to offload Vladar’s more cap-friendly deal.
Can Dan Vladar Trade Happen?
The Czech goalie did fill in nicely in spots for the Flames this season. There would probably be a number of suitors ready to go after the Czech netminder. Teams are looking for low-cost options in goal and Vladar could fit that bill.
Conroy said that he’d love to get Wolf some more time in the NHL. Moving one of the goalies would allow Wolf to get sustained time in goal at the NHL level. His cap hit is also only just over $813,000 and that would save the Flames a bit of space. Wolf seems to be the goalie of the future and it might be time to see what’s made of.
