NHL Rumours: Calgary Flames Defenceman Possible Trade Bait

Noah Hanifin trade

It’s time for another round of NHL rumours. We’re about ready for the Stanley Cup Final to start this weekend. However, there’s still plenty to talk about with the other 30 teams. The Calgary Flames have made some major changes with Craig Conroy as the new general manager. Conroy still has to find a new coach to replace Darryl Sutter, but Conroy has other decisions to make. There have already been some possible trade rumblings, but today’s NHL rumours looks at a possible Noah Hanifin trade.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

NHL Rumours

Noah Hanifin Trade in the Cards?

Rumour: Flames play-by-play man Derek Wills on the Big Show with Rusic & Rose on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 said the Flames could consider moving Hanifin. Conroy is trying to fix some holes in the middle-six part of the lineup. The Flames already have some solid defenders like Chris Tanev and Nikita Zadorov. Oliver Kylington should also return to the fold and could be a top-four defenceman.

This means a possible logjam on defence and one of those players could be flipped. Wills said Hanifin could be the type of player that gets a decent return. Hanifin is in the last year of a deal that has him making $4.95 million per season. The Boston native has a modified no-trade clause with an eight-team list.

Could a Noah Hanifin Trade Happen?

The former Boston College product would be a nice addition to any defensive group. He’s a big body that can do some damage in his own end at 6-foot-3-inches tall. He’s scored 10 goals twice in his career, but any offence is usually a bonus.

Conroy does have to decide on a coach and figure out what other 2024 free agents that he needs to re-sign. There has been some chatter about Elias Lindholm being traded, but Conroy will cross that bridge when he gets to it.
