Calgary Flames Head Coach Search Update

Rumour: Sportsnet’s Eric Francis took a look at who the Flames may select as their new head coach. Conroy stated that he wants to have the team all in sync and not at odds with each other. Sutter’s style was very old-school and very demanding at times. Some of that style may have forced the Calgary Flames head coach out the door.

Francis listed a new of candidates that the Flames may look at in the coming weeks. There were a number of experienced coaches listed and they included Peter Laviolette, Bruce Boudreau, Kirk Muller, Gerard Gallant, Andrew Brunette and Patrick Roy among others. Other names Francis mentioned were Ryan Huska, Mitch Love, Alex Tanguay and names that could get a shot.

Where Does Calgary Flames Head Coach Search Go?

This will be a big hire for Conroy and one of his first major moves. The Flames made the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2022 and had high expectations. However, the missed the mark and it cost former general manager Brad Treliving and coach Sutter their jobs.

There’s some good talent on the Flames’ roster, but there are some big decisions to be made. Calgary has a large group of unrestricted and restricted free agents they have to sign in 2024. Tackling that problem and getting a new coach are two very important he has to make in the coming weeks.
