NHL Rumours: Boston Bruins Winger Possible Trade Bait

Taylor Hall trade

It’s time once again for another round of NHL rumours. We’re almost to the last four in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, there are still plenty of things to sort out for other teams. The Boston Bruins followed up the best statistical regular season in league history with a stunning elimination in the opening round. General manager Don Sweeney and company have plenty of questions to answer in the coming off-season. One of those answers could be a possible Taylor Hall trade. Today’s NHL rumours deals with that possibility.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Chances of a Taylor Hall Trade

Rumour: The Athletic’s Fluto Shinzawa looked at the likelihood of a Taylor Hall trade in the off-season. Hall is a former Hart Trophy winner in 2018, but he’s bounced around the league. The Calgary native has two years and $6 million per season after signing a four-year deal. Hall scored 16 goals in 61 games last season, but deal with some injury problems.

Hall’s usage decreased under head coach Jim Montgomery and was further down the lineup during the post-season. The 31-year-old was strictly a 5-on-5 player during the season for the Bruins. A player getting $6 million per season usually needs to do more things than just be a standard skater. Boston feels it can probably move Hall while he still has value.

Impact of Taylor Hall Trade

The Bruins have contract extensions for David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha kicking in next season. Trading Hall would likely give them some relief going into next season. Boston also has to try and re-sign Tyler Bertuzzi and Jeremy Swayman to deals this off-season. Both players were helpful in the Bruins getting the President’s Trophy.

The salary cap only projected to go up $1 million hurts the Bruins cause and makes Hall expendable. It’s odd to see a former league MVP bounce around so much. However, situations may force Boston to make a deal. It’s also likely Sweeney will have to sweeten the pot a little to make a trade happen.
