New York Rangers Defender Listed Day-To-Day

NHL predictions

New York Rangers Head Coach Gerard Gallant announced shortly after their 6-3 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday that while defenceman and captain Jacob Trouba would continue travelling with the team, he would be listed day-to-day and miss today’s match in St. Louis.

Trouba, 29, is missing action for the first time this season, having played in New York’s first 78 games (including tonight). Lightning forward Corey Perry caught Trouba high with an awkward hit early in the first person, inflicting an injury that would prevent him from returning to the game and now will result in the Rangers captain missing play.

Jacob Trouba Listed Day-to-Day

Despite early struggles this season, with some speculating injury the primary cause, Trouba has improved to expected career performances this season. Trouba generates offence at an effective rate, largely enabled by his aggressive nature in rush play and high-shot tendency with the puck at the point, taking advantage of a system employing net-front players. Aggression is a trait that defines Jacob Trouba on both sides of the puck; whether joining the rush on the offensive or laying brutal hits on the defensive, Trouba’s tenacity is a trait that drove the confidence in management resulting in the awarding of his captaincy in New York.

In terms of production, Trouba is seeing another excellent year, with his 30 points on the season his fourth-best total in a career spanning from 2013-14 to the present day. Trouba’s minutes with New York’s top offensive producers may best provide insight into his improved production and an on-ice shooting percentage of 9.22, which is the highest of his career since joining the Rangers in 2019-20.

Impact of the Injury

Luckily for the Rangers, Trouba’s injury appears to have little significant infliction. Considering New York has already clinched a playoff position, and is essentially a lock for the top three in the division, the team’s caution may apply at a much larger rate, which could also allow players dealing with the natural rigours of the season to rest before a postseason run surrounded by ever-strengthening hype.
