Dubois is a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Winnipeg was hoping to make a deal happen sooner, but the two sides couldn’t come to agreement. The Jets Stanley Cup Playoff push also may have played a hand in the 24-year-old sticking it out this season. However, the lure of playing at home may be too great.
Impact of Pierre-Luc Dubois Trade Talks
Winnipeg will likely want some form of compensation for one of the team’s better goal-scorers. Dubois has 25 goals so far and is close to equaling his career-high 28 goal total from last season. The Jets offence struggles even with him and general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff knows that.
Montreal does have some solid young scoring prospects in its system. Winnipeg came maybe get some sort of package as compensation to somewhat fill the void. Losing out on Dubois will free up $6 million so the Jets can purse another target or spend that money elsewhere. The Habs will likely get a scorer to add to an exciting young array of offensive weapons.
