Carolina Hurricanes Winger Out Indefinitely

More bad Injury news is headed down south. Carolina Hurricanes Andrei Svechnikov will be out indefinitely. Svechnikov suffered a knee injury during their tilt with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Andrei Svechnikov Out Indefinitely

This is not ideal for the Carolina Hurricanes. For a team that has relied heavily on their top six has suffered massive blows in a matter of months. First Max Pacioretty suffered a torn Achilles, and now Svechnikov with a knee injury is a huge blow. Carolina is a team that has struggled to finish this season as they have a -25.35 goals scored above expected. With the team losing its top scorer and missing out on the Timo Meier sweepstakes this is not ideal.

Time For The Depth To Step In

With Carolina Hurricanes Andrei Svechnikov out of the lineup, depth will need to kick in. They still have a stellar core of Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas, Teuvo Terravainen, and Seth Jarvis. In addition, Necas is enjoying a career year and will be needed tremendously down the stretch. This will be the perfect opportunity for depth to shine brighter than it ever has all season long.

One player that could see increased ice time is Jesse Puljujarvi. After being newly acquired from the Edmonton Oilers, he could see top minutes. It is by no means replacing Svechnikov and what he brings, but that is depth that could shine in this moment.

Overall Outlook

The Carolina Hurricanes are a very good hockey team. Currently, they sit at the top of the Metropolitan Division and will contend for the Stanley Cup. However, many questioned their decision to not make a big splash at the deadline. Division rivals like the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers made headlines. With Carolina Hurricanes Andrei Svechnikov now out, the decision to not add extra scoring is puzzling.
