We’ve got more NHL rumours to start your Sunday. The March 3 trade deadline is coming soon and the moves are coming fast. There are plenty of teams in the market for a defenceman that can move the puck. Teams are trying to shore up their blueline depth and will do what it takes to make it happen. Today’s NHL rumours takes a look at the Arizona Coyotes closing in on a Jakob Chychrun trade.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Coyotes Nearing Jakob Chychrun Trade

Rumour: Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek provided an update on a deal for the young defenceman. Chychrun was a healthy scratch for trade purposes before Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues. Marek added that some teams have dropped out of the running or have denied being on him.

He added that the Edmonton Oilers are not in on the Boca Raton, Fla. native. Marek also stated that the Los Angeles Kings aren’t seeking Chychrun. However, this could also be them not wanting the news to overshadow that Dustin Brown retirement ceremony. Teams like the Boston Bruins have been linked to the defenceman in the last few weeks.

When Will the Jakob Chychrun Trade Happen

Healthy scratches usually mean a trade is going to happen soon. Arizona doesn’t want something bad to happen to its trade chip. The 24-year-old is sought after due to his contract being only $4.6 million.

Chychrun can play both defence positions and can contribute offence for his team. He’s got seven goals and 28 points in 36 games this season. His best season was when he had 18 goals and 41 points in the 2020-21 season.

The Coyotes know they have a player that can get them a nice return. Arizona is doing the right thing by keeping him out of the lineup. Hopefully, for Chychrun, he can get moved soon and get back on the ice.
