Toronto Looks Into Possible Tyler Myers Trade

Rumour: Irfaan Gaffar of The Fourth Period said that the Leafs have shown some interest in the veteran blueliner. New NHL Network analyst Bruce Bourdreau added that Myers had some great games this season. This news was reported via David Pagnotta, also of the Fourth Period.

The main worry is that the Katy, Texas native is due a $5 million bonus in the off-season. Myers also has a modified no-trade clause where he submits a 10-team no-trade list. Toronto is currently not on that list according to Pagnotta. The 33-year-old currently makes $6 million per season, but Vancouver could possibly retain some of that to ease Toronto’s cap hit. Myers isn’t the only defenceman that’s been rumoured to be moved at the deadline.

Could a Tyler Myers Trade Happen?

Pagnotta added that there’s steady traction between the two sides in making a deal happen. Myers is in the final year of his contract and could be a rental for the Leafs. Many thought that Toronto general manager Kyle Dubas would try to beef up the team’s forward ranks. However, Dubas’ focus has moved to defence for the time being.

Toronto wants to finally move onto the next round for the first time since 2004. All options are being explored by Dubas and he wants to get some deals done to try to improve the Leafs’ chances of breaking their Stanley Cup Playoff series victory drought. The rebuilding Canucks could help provide the Leafs some ammunition at the deadline.
