Montreal Canadiens Extend Young Defenseman

The Montreal Canadiens have signed rookie defenseman Jordan Harris to a two-year $2.8 million extension.

Canadiens Extended Jordan Harris

The Canadiens lock up another piece of their young core, signing Harris to a two-year extension with an AAV of $1.4 million per year.

Harris, 22, has been one of the better young defensemen for the Canadiens this season. So far, he has recorded 11 points in 47 games with a +/- of -6.

So far, he has blocked 66 shots and has an expected goals of 2.6 according to moneypuck. this is tied with notable defensive defenseman, Johnathan Kovacevic.

Harris has been with the Canadiens since 2021-2022, playing 10 games after finishing up his NCAA career with Northeastern University, recording 39 points in 58 games.

What This Means For The Canadiens

This is a great extension for Montreal. at only 1.4 million dollars per year, he saves them two years of RFA arbitration and can fill a spot on the special teams that the Canadiens have been missing since the 2021 playoffs.

As mentioned earlier, he is only 22 and has been solid for someone for a rookie year. he has been on the same level in terms of expected goals, and his stats have been solid overall, but not outstanding.

The Canadiens defence was not their strong suit last year, as none of their additions seemed to fit, as they completely fell apart and finished dead last. Coming out of Northeastern, Harris seemed to fill that role.

Harris has impressed the Canadiens since this year’s training camp and looks to have secured a permanent spot on the Canadiens blue line for the next few years, as the new era of Canadiens players takes over.
