It’s another dose of NHL rumours. Last Word often talks about sellers for the March 3rd trade deadline, but what about the buyers? There are some teams that want to beef up at the trade deadline. One of those teams is one many may not have thought of at the beginning of the season. The Buffalo Sabres could be adding at the deadline and a Columbus Blue Jackets forward may be on the wishlist. Today’s NHL rumours looks at a Boone Jenner trade at the deadline.

Buffalo Sabres Trade Deadline Could See Additions
Rumour: The NHL Network’s Jamison Coyle and Mike Johnson said that the Sabres could actually add at the trade deadline. General manager Kevyn Adams said that he wants to reward the fans with a Stanley Cup Playoff appearance. Buffalo hasn’t made the post-season since 2011, which is the longest drought in the NHL.
The Buffalo Sabres have a chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

One forward the panel mentioned was Jenner from the struggling Blue Jackets. Adams said that he wanted to add a veteran forward that would add some grit and toughness. The Sabres have plenty of young playmakers and goalscorers. However, they need a player that’s willing to mix it up and get their hands dirty if they need to. However, Adams doens’t want to stunt the development of a younger player like a Dylan Cozens by bumping him down the lineup.
What the Buffalo Sabres Trade Deadline May Look Like
Jenner does have playoff experience and could also chip in a goal or two if needed. Buffalo has salary cap space to play with and could take a risk to reward their fans with a long-awaited playoff berth. Jenner has 14 goals so far this season in 40 games with Columbus.
The Dorchester, Ontario native is in the first year of a contract that runs through the 2025-26 season worth $3.75 million per season. Buffalo can weaponize that $18.2 million of empty cap space. The 29-year-old could be just what the Sabres need to finally to reward a long-suffering fan base.
Columbus is in the mix for Connor Bedard and may be getting rid of pieces. The Jackets could get something for a veteran that has done plenty for the franchise.
