NHL Predictions: Dec. 23 Including Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers

Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is the Vancouver Canucks facing off against the Edmonton Oilers. Be sure to check out our first two sets of NHL Predictions as well.

NHL Predictions

Calgary Flames vs Anaheim Ducks

Head to Head: Flames 0 – 0 Ducks

Despite the fact that the Calgary Flames haven’t lived up to expectations this season, the Anaheim Ducks have been absolutely horrendous so far. They have yet to notch double-digit wins on the year, but they have been better so far. The Ducks are 3-6-1 in their last 10 and currently are on a two-game losing streak.

This is the last game for Calgary in their Western road trip, and it has fared well for them. In their last three, they have had scores of 5-2, 7-3, and 4-3. The last one they lost in OT, which means they have yet to walk away from this trip without a point.

Prediction: Flames win 3-1

St. Louis Blues vs Vegas Golden Knights

Head to Head: Blues 0 – 1 Knights

So far, the St. Louis Blues and Vegas Golden Knights are having two very different seasons. One is having the comeback season of a lifetime, and the other is dwindling toward the middle of the pack in the central. So far, the Golden Knights have been one of the better defensive teams in the Pacific, with a goals against of 96.

The Blues haven’t been great in their own zone, as they have a GA of 119. This is quite bad, as the only other team to have a higher rating in the Central is Chicago, with 120.

Overall, this should be a decently easy win for the Golden Knights, unless they get carried away somehow.

Prediction: Vegas wins 4-1

Los Angeles Kings vs Arizona Coyotes

Head to Head: Kings 1 – 0 Coyotes

The LA Kings have been fantastic this year. Only stuck behind the equally good Golden Knights, the Kings have an impressive 19-12-5 record heading into the holiday break. The Arizona Coyotes, however, have been performing up to expectations. They currently sit second last in the Central, with a 10-16-5 record and a goal differential of -31.

Overall, this should be an easy way for the Kings to enter the holiday break.

Prediction: Kings win 5-2

Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers

Head to Head: Canucks 0 – 1 Oilers

The Canucks had an awful start to their season, although they have somewhat turned themselves around. The Canucks are just barely below .500, and currently have a 14-15-3 record with a goal differential of -21.

So far, the Oilers have been stuck in the middle. They sit fourth in the Central behind the Golden Knights, Kraken, and Kings. They also have had the offence rolling, with a GF of 124. Although, their defence and goaltending haven’t been great, as they have a GA of 117.

Overall, this should be a decently close game.

Prediction: Oilers Win 3-2 in OT
