Fantasy Hockey: Recapping Week 10 Studs, Duds, and Sleepers

Ahead of our Week 11 fantasy hockey selections, let’s take a quick look back at Week 10 and see how we did in predicting success for your team:

Fantasy Hockey: Recapping Week 10 Studs, Duds, and Sleepers

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – Stud

Last week we highlighted the career pace RNH is on and his value for fantasy hockey owners on the power play. He continued to produce here. A goal and an assist on the power play with an additional even strength assist. That was the good news. The bad news? There were four games for the Edmonton Oilers. Three points in four games is not bad, but it is far below the eight points in the previous four games. He also shot less and did not squeak in any banger stats. Maybe it is greedy to have wanted more…but we wanted more.

Nazem Kadri – Stud

Another four-game fantasy hockey option this week had us expecting Kadri continuing his value. Especially with the matchups. He still has a game to play Sunday night, but so far it has been pretty quiet. A lone assist, at even strength, has given very low offensive fantasy hockey value thus far. He is shooting though, and more than normal. He has also recorded hits in five straight games. Since not all leagues give credit for banger categories though, his overall value will depend on tonight.

Ilya Sorokin – Dud

Still sitting at 99% ownership, we cautioned against the opponents and Sorokin’s current losing streak. He only started one game, which is not a surprise. What is a surprise was his only game was against the worst team of the New York Islanders opponents for the week. He responded by allowing five goals on 29 shots and picking up his fifth straight loss. That’s worse than not actually playing.

Sefl-grade: A+

Mark Stone – Dud

In the late week games for the Vegas Golden Knights, Stone did not produce much. His one assist was on the power play though, which fantasy hockey owners have desperately been needing. However, we did recommend an automatic sit in the weeks first game against the Winnipeg Jets. That was wrong. Stone scored twice against the fourth ranked defense. Both goals gave his team one-goal leads as well. They were important goals just as much as they were surprising goals. But as good ‘ol Chris Berman would say, “this is why they play the game.”

Self-grade: F

Viktor Arvidsson – Sleeper

You can’t predict everything. One of those is Arvidsson being designated non-roster status to be with his wife for the birth of their child. He would play in Sunday’s game, producing basically nothing fantasy hockey wise. Congratulations to the family.

Self-grade: Free Pass

Alexander Barabanov – Sleeper

You also cannot predict injuries. A lower body injury would limit Barabanov to one game so far this week. With a Sunday matchup against the Calgary Flames still to come, the fantasy hockey value has been strictly for banger categories. A power play point tonight drastically changes what his weekly value would end up as. Calgary does have problems staying out of the box, so there is potential.

Self-grade: D+ (subject to power play production Sunday night)
