Many people have given the Oilers the eye test and all say that they have been easy to play against. They are lacking the toughness and grit that Evander Kane provides.

And now, according to Elliot Friedman, they are looking at bringing in a player dedicated solely to grit.

Although they tried that when they brought in Zack Kassian, it could be more useful to bring in another guy alongside Kane in order to keep the stars a little bit more tough, and give them that brutal edge that they have been missing.

What This Means

As mentioned Earlier, adding that secondary player who could provide grit alongside Kane. That will provide that size and edge that they have been missing for the past couple of weeks.

This Oilers team is too talented to be constantly thrown around by their opponents. It makes sense why they want to have another player to rely on when it comes to dropping the gloves. That player will also be providing physicality.

Although, some players have been stepping up to provide the toughness, as star forward Leon Draisaitl was seen launching an opponent’s stick across the ice after a goal recently.

This may not seem like much. However, it’s a stepping stone the Oilers are looking to take while they seek out a grinding forward.

They could also turn to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors for that. However, it may not be fair or logical to call someone up for the sole point of protecting McDavid and Draisaitl. Until then, the Edmonton Oilers rumours will keep flying.
