Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game for NHL Predictions is the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. the Philadelphia Flyers. We hope you had a Happy American Thanksgiving and check out our other NHL predictions for the day.
NHL Predictions: Pittsburgh Penguins vs Philadelphia Flyers
Ottawa Senators vs Anaheim Ducks
Head-to-Head Senators 0 – 0 Ducks
Both teams have some good young players and plenty of promise. The Ottawa Senators have lost four of its last five while the Anaheim Ducks are coming off a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers. Ottawa could exploit the Anaheim’s trouble with killing off penalties.
It’ll be a tight one, but the Sens should get the win.
Prediction: Senators win 3-2.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Philadelphia Flyers
Head-t0-Head: Penguins 0-0 Flyers
It’s our featured game for our set of predictions and the first of three meetings this season. Pittsburgh is red-hot with four straight wins and both sides of the ice playing well. The Penguins are sixth in goals for coming into Friday’s games with 71. Sidney Crosby is still playing at a high level with 10 goals and 27 points.
The Flyers have lost eight straight games and are fading after a great start. Further issues mean more angry soundbites from coach John Tortorella, who even scares the Grinch. Carter Hart continues to put up great numbers, but only he can do so much to stem the tide.
Betting on team’s continue losing streaks has been an issue for the site, but Pittsburgh should take care of business.
Prediction: Penguins win 4-1.
Seattle Kraken vs. Vegas Golden Knights
Head-to-Head: Kraken 0 – 1 Golden Knights
This Pacific Division battle has the Seattle Kraken coming in with a three-game winning streak. Seattle has been scoring goals in bunches as of late and from multiple sources. It’s been a wide distribution of goals for the Kraken with Jared McCann having the most with seven.
The Vegas Golden Knights are third in goals for with 77 and have won three of their last five. Jack Eichel seems to be back to his old self and leads the team with 11 goals so far. Logan Thompson has helped the Knights not miss a beat in goal despite the loss of Robin Lehner. Both teams are top six in goals against.
It should be a good game, but the Knights have the edge.
Prediction: Golden Knights win 4-2.
Arizona Coyotes vs. Detroit Red Wings
Head-to-Head: Coyotes 0-0 Red Wings
The Arizona Coyotes are coming off a surprising 4-0 shutout of the Carolina Hurricanes in the last outing. Arizona’s goals for is 31st, but are eighth on the power play and penalty kill. The Coyotes did look better after getting back Jakob Chychrun and currently have Lawson Crouse leading in goals.
Things are looking good for the Detroit Red Wings under new coach Derek LaLonde. Team captain Dylan Larkin leads in goals (9) and assists (13) for the club. Ville Husso has been what Detroit’s been missing in goal with a .922 save percentage.
Arizona does look better with Chychrun, but Detroit should push through.
Prediction: Red Wings win 3-1.
New York Islanders vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Head-to-Head: Islanders 1-0
Both teams have won three of their last five. The New York Islanders beat the Columbus Jackets, 4-3, in the first meeting of the season. Ilya Sorokin made 49 saves to shut out the Edmonton Oilers, 3-0, in the last game out. The Isles are eighth in goals for and goals against and third on the penalty kill.
Columbus lost 3-1 to the Montreal Canadiens the last time on ice. The Jackets are 31st in goals against and 30th on the power play. Boone Jenner leads the team in goals with eight and Johnny Gaudreau is tops in assists with 11.
The Islanders have been riding some great goaltending and that should continue here.
Prediction: Islanders win 4-1.
New Jersey Devils vs. Buffalo Sabres
Head-to-Head: Devils 0-0 Sabres
The New Jersey Devils are coming off a controversial loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs that snapped their 13-game winning streak. However, the Devils have been incredible the last two months. Vitek Vanecek has been amazing in goal with a 2.14 goals-against-average and Jesper Bratt leads in assists with 16.
The Buffalo Sabres are on a two-game winning streak after losing eight straight. Mattias Samuelsson and Zemgus Girgensons both returning have been a big lift as well as picking up Tyson Jost. The Sabres are fourth in goals scored while the Devils are fifth.
New Jersey might be a little sore from that loss, so they should get the win.
Prediction: Devils win 3-2.
St. Louis Blues vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
Head-to-Head: Blues 0-0 Lightning
Our last game features the St. Louis Blues versus Tampa Bay Lightning. The Blues are coming off a loss to the Sabres but won seven in a row before that. Talk of the Blues blowing everything up has stopped because they must have found that old tape of “Gloria” from 2019. Both power plays are in the top 10 with St. Louis 10th and Tampa Bay ninth.
Tampa Bay is also coming off a loss after a four-game winning streak. The Lightning have also righted the ship after a shaky start. Veterans Steven Stamkos (10 goals) and Nikita Kucherov (18 assists) have been carrying the load.
This should be worthy of the national TV hope. We’ll get the gift of free hockey.
Prediction: Lightning win 5-4 in overtime.
Sidney Crosby has 499 career goals. 49 of those goals are against the Flyers.
