Every season there are teams that make the headlines. Some in a good way and some in a bad way. And given the way the 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks have started, it had not been the best headlines. Today’s rumour focuses on them and how they are linked to a head coach around the league.
2022-23 Vancouver Canucks Linked To Devils Assistant
Rumour: Elliotte Friedman discusses the Vancouver Canucks being tied to New Jersey Devils assistant Andrew Brunette
Friedman on TJMS discussing the rumours tying Andrew Brunette to Vancouver, he doesn't think the Devils would be inclined to stand in his way if a head coaching opportunity came up, but there's a big difference between letting him go midseason and at the end of the season.

It was a bit of a head-scratcher when the Florida Panthers let go of Andrew Brunette and replaced him with Paul Maurice. But New Jersey pounced on the opportunity to bring him in and signed him to a three-year contract. Lindy Ruff currently serves as the Devils’ bench boss, but given the performance we saw the Panthers display under Brunette, he could succeed Ruff in New Jersey. But as an assistant, he could coach elsewhere if given the opportunity, but with the Devils playing the way they are, it doesn’t make sense to let him go. The Devils currently sit first in the Metropolitan Division.
Why Would Vancouver Show Interest?
The 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks current bench boss is Bruce Boudreau. Upon relieving Travis Green, Boudreau went 32-15-10 and turned the season. Boudreau is a proven head coach and it was a great signing to keep him on board. To begin this year they were 0-5-2 and blew a lead in every game to start the year. Tension was building, and frustration began to set in.
Boudreau is only signed for one beyond this one, and if things continue to go south, changes will be made. That brings in Brunette. Friedman does not think the Devils would hinder him from accepting a job elsewhere, but it would be interesting to see if he interviews. With a roster capable of performing better, a new voice could occur.
