NHL Rumours: No Contract Talks Between Ottawa Senators and Defenceman

Artem Zub, Ottawa Senators

As the season moves along, teams are starting to figure out the worth of their players. And if they want them in the lineup or not. The Ottawa Senators have a lot of interest in extending Defenceman Artem Zub. However, they haven’t engaged in any contract talks, and apparently, it is only minor talks.

NHL Rumours

Contract Talks Have Stalled Between Senators And Defenceman

Rumour: Per TSN’s Insider Trading, contract talks between the Ottawa Senators and defenseman Artem Zub have been very minimal.

The Ottawa Senators have had a very interesting offseason. They signed Claude Giroux in free agency and traded for Alex DeBrincat. This deal sent two draft picks to the Chicago Blackhawks. They also signed Joshua Norris and Tim Stutzle each to 8-year agreements.

So far they seem to be making a push to improve, and they are trying to start that by signing another young piece of their team, Zub. However, there have only been very minor talks according to Chris Johnston. He has been a well-loved player in Ottawa, so it is expected that the Senators will try to not let him go to the market, where he could be quite popular.

What This Means

Although the contract talks are a bit of an uneasy site, it is very early in the season, and there is still lots of time for both parties to get a deal done. For now, however, he still has a season left of NHL games left to play before the senators have to extend him. From what it looks like, he could be commanding a fair bit more than what he is making, because he is playing top-line minutes for Ottawa on the defensive end, and he has the most points out of any Senators defenseman so far. At this point, only time will tell.
