NHL Rumours: Edmonton Oilers Targeting Two Veteran Forwards

NHL Rumours

In today’s edition of NHL rumours snippets, the Edmonton Oilers are rumoured to be making big moves again. Apparently, they are in on two big stars that are up for grabs.

NHL Rumours: Oilers In On Two Forwards

NHL Rumour: The Edmonton Oilers have apparently made forward Patrick Kane their ‘plan one’, and Phil Kessel their ‘plan two’ according to Gene Principe.

The Oilers, who made it to the Western Conference Finals this past year, have apparently made Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane their number one target, and Arizona Coyotes forward Phil Kessel their number two target.

Both Kane and Kessel have been rumoured to be moved for a while, and this adds more fuel to the fire as the Oilers were on the brink of a Stanley Cup Finals appearance.

The Oilers came close in the 2022 playoffs, making the Western Conference Final before losing to the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalance would go on to win the Stanley Cup over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

What This Means

Both players are nearing the beginning of the season on teams that are in the middle of massive rebuilds, and are nowhere near contention. Considering these two have both played a major role on championship teams, and are both star calibre players in some capacity, they could seriously help the Oilers out.

There is a fair amount of doubt that Phil Kessel can score 35 goals in a season as Principe said. But, he could play a larger role on an Edmonton team with a lot more firepower. Obviously, Kane has a lot more talent and ability compared to Kessel. That talent could create a serious three-headed dragon that the Oilers could do some serious damage with.

Both these players are above their 30s and have shown some signs of decline. This may not end well for the Oilers, or this may end with another great run.
