The one team to watch out for this coming season is the Ottawa Senators. They made huge upgrades this offseason and have something good cooking. Ottawa traded for Alex DeBrincat, signed Claude Giroux, and brought in Cam Talbot to tend the net. These moves make the team better and should make them more competitive in the Atlantic Division. However, another upgrade is in the works. One of the big name’s trade targets seems to be linked to the Sens.
Ottawa Senators Look To Upgrade The Back End
I’m told the #sens remain in pursuit of Jacob Chychryn. There have been talks this week. The ask remains two 1st round picks and a high end prospect plus Arizona would also take Zaitsev.

Rumour: Brent Wallace mentions that the Ottawa Senators could trade for Defencemen Jakob Chychrun
For the longest time, the Arizona Coyotes have been shopping their star defencemen. In regards to the player, the price is steep but needless to say the upgrade on the blue line is there. Chychrun is only 24 years of age and his prime years are ahead of him. The young blueliner is an outstanding defenceman and his cap hit of $4.6 million is affordable and he has term on his contract.
Jakob Chychrun Stats
Chychrun has been a full-time player for the Coyotes since the 2016-17 season. In short, he has consistently hit the 20-point mark in every season since coming into the league. His best season came in 2020-21 when he skated in 56 games and scored 18 goals, 23 assists, and 41 points.
Jakob Chychrun is a great defenceman who plays tough #1 minutes and scores a /lot/ of goals for a blueliner – this graphic is from before he scored a hat-trick tonight. #Yotes pic.twitter.com/Zk1xf6gM1H

This was his best season. He slots in on the powerplay and chipped in with 14 points with the man advantage. Chychrun had a down year scoring 21 points. To summarize, he has the ability to chip in on offence, but he is also stellar on the back end and is no liability in his own zone. The blue liner would be a welcome addition to the Ottawa Senators.
Why Ottawa Should Make The Trade
Ottawa is emerging from the ashes of that defeat to the Pittsburgh Penguins five seasons ago and showing they are aiming to compete. Completing a Jacob Chychrun trade would only improve their roster. With the core of Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, Joshua Norris (recently extended), Thomas Chabot, Drake Batherson, DeBrincat, and Giroux, Ottawa is only getting started. The foundation is being laid, and a Jakob Chychrun trade would the missing piece to the puzzle.
Jakob Chychrun has registered a multi-goal game in back-to-back appearances.
The only other defenseman in Coyotes/Jets franchise history to do that is Dave Ellett from 11/29/88 – 12/2/88. #Yotes https://t.co/9vYO9f7j58 pic.twitter.com/ekXWuEPlpJ
