The offseason for hockey is the wildest time of the year. So much is flying around and the speculation is underway. Not only is the draft bright around the corner, but so is free agency. The other fun thing that makes the world go round is an offer sheet. The Montreal Canadiens attempted with Sebastian Aho, but did not land him. Today we focus on those same offer sheets and how another Carolina Hurricanes forward could be a candidate. A Martin Necas offer sheet could be on the horizon.
Carolina Hurricanes Centre Could Face Offer Sheet
Rumour: Frank Seravalli from the Daily Faceoff talks about Martin Necas facing an offersheet
The Carolina Hurricanes could face another offer sheet this offseason. While they matched franchise centre Sebastian Aho, who could go down as one of the greatest players to play for the franchise, they could deal with this again. This time it is Martin Necas. The Czech forward is a prime candidate for an offer sheet, and a team could look to add him.
Why A Martin Necas Offersheet Makes Sense
Carolina Hurricanes centre could face an offer sheet. Martin Necas is young and versatile. The Czech forward can play winger and centre, although he prefers to play centre. With the logjam at the position in Carolina, he has played winger for his career. If a team wants a versatile player they can utilize in the lineup, this is the player. He as has not had a bad career for himself; since entering the league full-time, he has consistently hit the 40-point benchmark. In 78 games played this season, he scored 14 goals, 26 assists, and 40 points. Yes, that is a lot, but it was an inconsistent 40 points where he saw him be a ghost for a better part of the year.

Necas is fast and plays with speed. He has the skill and the potential to be an offensive threat in this league. He has a nice shot and the ability to put the puck in the net. Just needs to do it more consistently. He is worth having and could be a prime offer sheet candidate.
Carolina Should Match Offer Sheet
If Martin Necas faces the offer sheet and signs it, Carolina should match it. Vincent Trocheck will most likely walk when free agency approaches. That means that the second-line centre position should be open for the taking. Martin Necas wants to move back to his natural position, and with his skill, he would be good for the top six. Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour should not bat an eye at this. Necas is familiar with the system and playing in Carolina and it would be better to see what he could do in his natural position than to let him go.
