Given his age, Bergeron had a stellar campaign for himself. He ranked first among NHL forwards with 8.9 defensive goals above replacement. He also ranked first among forwards with 9.3 expected defensive goals above replacement. One of the best stats to show how important Bergeron was on the ice was the Boston Bruins 1.51 expected goals against per 60 minutes. That led the league by wide margin.
Patrice Bergeron remains effective at both ends of the ice. According to Stat Muse, he tallied 8 goals and 15 assists for 23 points on the power play. He also tallied 3 assists while being short-handed. The Bruins forward led the league in a faceoff wins percentage at 61.9%. He also had 37 takeaways.
What Next For Bergeron?
This could be the end for Bergeron. The star center and the captain of the Boston Bruins is currently weighing his options. Bergeron will either sign a new contract with the Boston Bruins or hang up his skates for good.
This could be the final time Bergeron wins the Selke Trophy. Now the winningest player of all time for the award, it could be his last. This adds to the long list of awards that Bergeron has won. He has won the Selke Trophy four others times, the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, Mark Messier Leadership Award, and a Stanley Cup Champion in 2011.
Whatever happens next, Patrice Bergeron has cemented his legacy in hockey and will go down as one of the best two-way centers to ever play the game of hockey. He should be a lock for the Hall Of Fame one day.
