Legacy of Success

Darryl Sutter is one of the best coaches in NHL history. He is eleventh all-time in wins and has won two Stanley Cups during his tenure with the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings winning two championships could not have been done without Sutter’s leadership.

In 2012, LA was the number eight seed in the Western Conference and heavy underdogs. They defeated the top three teams in the West to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. The Kings handled the New Jersey Devils in six games and won their first Stanley Cup.

During the 2014 season, the Kings were down 3-0 in their first-round series against the San Jose Sharks. Under the strong leadership of Sutter, the Kings would battle back and win the series in seven. LA rode their momentum into wins against the Anaheim Ducks and the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks. The New York Rangers awaited them in the Stanley Cup Final. The Kings bested the Rangers in five games, including three overtime wins on home ice.

A new home in Calgary

The Calgary Flames hired Sutter before the 2021 pandemic shortened season. Calgary hoped that Sutter’s leadership could turn a mediocre team into a contender.

The 2021-2022 season was one for the ages in Calgary. Sutter got the best out of his superstars, which resulted in core players such as Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm having career years. Although the Flames’ season ended in disappointment, the organization could finally have set expectations thanks to Darryl Sutter’s coaching ability.
