So with that being said, the Last Word on Hockey Show was back on for a special summer news and notes edition on the MAD Radio Network. Your host Jim Biringer from lastwordonhockey.com was back alongside Marc Weiss and Coach Jay live on location from Monroe. NHL Olympics

Jim welcomes everyone to a special edition of the show live on location. He kicks things off by talking about the NHL going back to the Olympics. Jim talks about the implications behind the decision and discusses why he will believe when he sees it. The boys also discuss why they feel it is not the best idea to be going back now and their thoughts on professionals going to the Olympics.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi

Jim transitions the show to the news about the Jesperi Kotkaniemi offer sheet by the Carolina Hurricanes. Marc jumps in talking about how it was revenge for the Sebastian Aho offer sheet. The boys discuss the decision by general manager Marc Bergevin not match the offer sheet and how it was his only option. Jim says that Montreal would have been up against the cap if they matched the offer and how Kotkaniemi is not worth that money. Marc and Jay agree it was best for Montreal to move on.

Christian Dvorak Trade

Jim then talks about the associated move by Montreal after declining to match the offer sheet. The Canadiens traded for Christian Dvorak of the Arizona Coyotes. This move did not come as much of a surprise as he had been rumoured to be dealt as Montreal was weighning their options. Jim talks about how even though it is tough for fans to deal with the fact they lost Phillip Danault and Kotkaniemi, they have a solid replacement in Dvorak. And Montreal’s depth down the middle is not as bad as it really seems.

In addition, the boys look at the signings by the New York Islanders along with paying tribute to the late great Rod Gilbert and Henrik Lundqvist‘s retirement.

Enjoy!
