The Last Word on Hockey

New York Rangers

Jim welcomes everyone to the show as the boys come on to talk about the breaking news involving the New York Rangers about Jeff Gorton and John Davidson were fired. The timing was very coincidental and despite the team saying it was performance-based Ricky says it was about the statement issued on Tuesday. The Rangers felt that the Department of Player Safety should have suspended Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson for his actions against Pavel Buchnevich and Artemi Panarin during Monday, May 3rd’s game. Ricky explains that Davidson and Gorton were not fans of that statement that costs the Rangers $250,000 so owner James Dolan fired them.
The boys discuss Chris Drury’s new appointment as interim President and general manager. Marc talks about how Glen Sather will be coming back to the organization. All agree the timing was fishy. They also talk about the potential of Mark Messier returning to the team as either president, general manager, or coach. And considering his comments to the Michael Kay show, you have to wonder as Ricky says if he was not in Dolan’s ear.

The show then talks about the incident involving Wilson. Jim breaks down each part of the play. And asks the boys were they really surprised Wilson wasn’t suspended? Most agreed they weren’t considering what has gone in hockey and the handing out of suspensions over the past 10 years. They also discuss the fallout from the incident and how the Rangers responded. And as Jim points out whether Wilson was suspended or not, he was going to answer the bell now or later.

The boys also continue to talk about the toughness of the Rangers and how something needs to change. As Jim points out why is Panarin the one doing this?  As Jay points out the guy that should have been there Brendan Lemieux, is now in Los Angeles. Again they all agree if it wasn’t Tom Wilson, this is not being discussed. It is then just looked at as another scrum after the whistle.

In addition to the topics above the boys discuss other topics include the battle for the fourth spot between the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators. As well as Ryan Miller, and the emotions involving T.J. Oshie, Anze Kopitar and David Backes.
