The Last Word on Hockey Show: Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Dallas Stars

Adam Fox

Another week in the NHL means The Last Word on Hockey Show is back on the MAD Radio Network and North East Streaming Sports. Your host Jim Biringer from lastwordonhockey.com was back alongside Coach Jay and March Weiss. The boys take a trip around the NHL looking at the big stories of the week. This week with the regular season winding down, the boys look at the tight playoff races in each of the four divisions. Plus they discuss Adam Fox for Norris Trophy, the battle in the Central Division between Dallas and Nashville and much more.

The Last Word on Hockey

Montreal Canadiens

Jim welcomes everyone back to the show. The boys dive right into the North Division and the battle for the final spot. In a must-win game, the Canadiens pulled one out against the Winnipeg Jets. As Marc pointed out it was a playoff-type game. The Canadiens dug deep to pull out the victory. Tyle Toffoli has been the story of the season. The boys review the series with the Calgary Flames. Coach Jay points out how every game matters with a four-point swing in every divisional game. The Flames are charging hard so the Canadiens need to be really consistent down the stretch.

New York Rangers

Then Jim switches over to the race in the East Division and the New York Rangers. Time is running out no the Rangers. Every time they have momentum, the New York Islanders stand in their way. As March and Coach Jay point out they are just not tough enough. The physicality with the Rangers is missing. Not to mention, this team needs to name a captain so there is a voice in the room. The slow start and not winning the games they should have won have cost them a shot at the playoffs. But they are moving in the right direction and will be there next year.

Adam Fox

Speaking of moving in the right direction, Jim brings up defenceman Adam Fox. He asks the questions about if Fox should be considered for the Norris Trophy and does he deserve to win it? Marc and Coach Jay both agree he should be considered for it and deserve to win it, but they all know how this works. Plus normally the winner does not go to a player whose team did not make the playoffs. But as Jim points out the Norris is not the Hart Trophy and if you put Fox up against Victor Hedman and John Carlson, his numbers say he is the best overall defenceman. Not chance offensively, but defensively too.
In addition to the topics above the boys discuss other topics include the battle for the fourth spot between the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators, the battle in the West Division, the Seattle Kraken expansion draft, and so much more!!
