Welcome back to NHL Predictions! Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at every game and predicts the outcome. Unfortunately, due to the Vancouver Canucks Covid-19 outbreak, there will only be two games closing out tonight’s schedule. Therefore, our featured game is the Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks. As for the two West division teams, the curtains will start to shut if they can’t string together a group of wins. Be sure to check out our set of earlier NHL Predictions too.

Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks

Head-to-Head: Stars 1 – 3 Blackhawks

The Dallas Stars head into the windy city for two consecutive matches looking to better their away record versus Chicago Blackhawks. Each team is coming off of a shutout loss and should be eager to find the back of the net. With only three more meetings between the two teams, this game comes down to a must-win for each participant. Chicago sits fifth in the Central Division with 39 points, two points behind the fourth spot. Dallas chases Chicago by three points in the standings, trying to grab traction on the winning side of things. 

Chicago finds themselves on a two-game slide and is allowing up 2.7 goals per game. Dallas has won four of their last 10 and is averaging 2.2 goals against the team. In total, the Blackhawks have surrendered 122 goals against, and the Stars have allowed only 95. Looking at the offensive side of things, Chicago is averaging two goals scored per game, totalling 109 on the season, ranking them 14th in the NHL. Dallas is averaging 2.4 goals with 98 scored, ranking them 24th. Dallas is averaging more goals per game based on the three fewer games played than Chicago.

The Chicago Blackhawks star player Patrick Kane continues to rally as he ranks third in the NHL with 49 points. He also has 13 goals and leads his team with 36 assists. Joe Pavelski is the goal leader for the Stars with 15 goals and has 34 points. Watch out for Dallas player Jason Robertson as the 21-year-old has hit the back of the net four times during his last 10 games played. 

Prediction: Dallas Wins: 4-3

Anaheim Ducks vs San Jose Sharks

Head-to-Head: Ducks 1 – 4 Sharks

The San Jose Sharks will host the Battle of California for their next five games. They will take on both the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings, the Sharks are 8-1-1 versus the two teams this season. San Jose’s up-and-coming homestand will be the final time they meet with their rivalry neighbours. The Sharks have been on a tear as of late, winning four games in a row and won six of their last 10. Anaheim has won three of the team’s recent 10 games played, the struggles continue.

 Evander Kane leads the San Jose Sharks with 16 goals and has 17 assists on the season. Max Comtois and Adam Henrique lead the way for the Ducks with 10 goals each. Tomas Hertl has been hot as of late as he has four goals and four assists during his last 10 games. During Adam Henrique’s previous 10 games for Anaheim, he has four goals and two assists for Anaheim. 

Prediction: San Jose Wins 5-2
