Marc-Andre Fleury on COVID List
Fleury is one of five players on the COVID list that includes Kyle Turris, Marcus Sorensen, Cal Petersen and Will Butcher. Being placed on the list doesn’t mean that Fleury has coronavirus. He may have only been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
The 36-year-old is having a resurgent year in Vegas with posting a 17-12-5 record. Fleury also has a 1.73 goals-against average and sterling .938 save percentage. He also has four shutouts in net so far for Vegas.
The Sorel, Quebec native has played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Golden Knights in his 17-year NHL career. He has a record of 478-271-271 record with 82 ties in 864 career games. Fleury has a career goals-against-average of 2.55 and save percentage of .913. Fleury also has 65 career shutouts.
Pittsburgh took him with the first overall pick of the 2003 NHL Draft form the Cape Breton Eagles of the QMJHL. He was taken by the Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.
What This Means for the Future
Logan Thompson and Oscar Dansk will likely shoulder the load while Fleury is out for the near future and Robin Lehner is returning for injury. Dansk got called up from the Henderson Silver Knights of the AHL to give the team some cover. Many thought Lehner would get the majority of starts after signing his huge contract in the off-season. However, Fleury has shown the Knights were fortunate not find a trade partner with their future Hall of Fame goalie.
This isn’t the first time the Golden Knights have dealt with COVID this season as they’ve had to move games around. The NHL will not provide details of when Fleury can return as they’ve done so with all players this season.
