A new NHL season means The Last Word on Hockey Show is back on the MAD Radio Network. Your host Jim Biringer from lastwordonhockey.com is back alongside Marc Weiss. With Coach Jay on assignment, they are joined by special guest Ron Grossman. The boys take a trip around the 2020-21 NHL North Division as they dissect the Pierre-Luc Dubois/Patrik Laine trade along with taking a trip around the 2020-21 North Division. They highlight the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets. Plus so much more.
The Last Word on Hockey
Jim opens the show welcoming everyone to the program. He calls an audible early as there was hockey news to discuss. The three gentlemen break down the trade that saw the Columbus Blue Jackets send Pierre-Luc Dubois and a third-round pick in 2022 to the Winnipeg Jets for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic. The big question for the fellas is Laine a John Tortorella guy? Because we all Jack Roslovic is.
Jim then transitions the show to talk about the Montreal Canadiens and their hot start. They talk about the acquisitions the Canadiens made in the offseason. He throws out the question about Dubois going to Montreal eventually. Ron and Marc agree it is a bad fit right now. Maybe down the road. No reason to mortgage the future and hurt chemistry especially with the way the Canadiens have been playing to start the season. Jim, Ron, and Marc are all in agreement that Montreal positioned itself to be the best team in the North Division.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Jim then shifts the discussion to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ron, Marc, and Jim agree that Toronto is the second-best team in the division. However, did they do enough in the off-season to address their needs of being a tougher team to play against once the playoffs come? The three men don’t think so.
Before the show closes the boys give their predictions on who will make the playoffs. Jim says do not sleep on the Calgary Flames. In addition, they rank the goalies in the division.
