Tyler Toffoli Signs With Montreal Canadiens

One of the more coveted free-agents is off the market. Toffoli had a solid season playing for the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks. He was a big reason the Cancuks made it to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs forcing the Vegas Golden Knights to a Game 7. In 68 games this season between the Kings and Canucks, Toffoli recorded 44 points (24 goals and 20 assists). Toffoli was the subject of trade talks early in the season and the Canucks were able to pull off a deal to acquire the veteran winger. Though he only played in 10 games with the Canucks this season, he made an impact recording 10 points including six goals. Even though he played in seven games this post-season, Toffoli left his mark on this Canucks team. He recorded four points (two goals and two assists). Toffoli was dealing with an injury and missed significant time in the playoffs.

Originally drafted by the Kings in the second round, 47th overall of the 2010 NHL Draft, Toffoli has made an impact wherever he has played in the NHL. Already with a Stanley Cup in his back pocket as part of the 2014 Kings team, Toffoli adds a veteran presence that is needed to win in the league. In 525 regular-season games, Toffoli has recorded 300 points (145 goals and 155 assists). Playing in 54 career playoff games, Toffoli has recorded 25 points (11 goals and 14 assists).

What Lies Ahead

Adding a player like Toffoli will be huge for the Canadiens offence. Even though he wanted to stay in Vancouver, the salary cap just didn’t allow it. Toffoli is a highly-skilled winger that is 20 goal scorer in the league. He has reached that mark three times in his career. He brings a load of playoff-experience with him as well. And as we saw this season, Toffoli can fit in with a young team that has a good core. Being a consistent and productive player in the league is tough to do. But Toffoli has mastered that ability. His ability to play a two-way game and score goals at the same adds value to any team that signs him.
