The Minnesota Wild announced that defenceman Greg Pateryn is sidelined indefinitely with an upper-body injury. Pateryn’s injury was announced on the team’s Twitter on Saturday.

Greg Pateryn Injured
It’s not clear when the 30-year-old blueliner suffered the injury. He last appeared with the team in their March 8 win over the Anaheim Ducks.
So far this season, Pateryn has three assists for three points in 20 games. He also has six penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 43.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -8.0. The Sterling Heights, Mich. native also played one game with the AHL Iowa Wild this season. He did not record a point that game.
Over his seven-year NHL career, Pateryn has played for the Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars and the Wild. He has four goals and 35 assists for 39 career points in 267 career games. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round, 128th overall in the 2008 NHL draft.
Pateryn played for seasons with the University of Michigan in the NCAA. He is the middle of a three-year, $6.75 million dollar contract with the club.
What This Means for the Future
The veteran wasn’t scoring points, but was getting steady ice time with the Wild. He averaged 15:44 minutes of ice time per game. He was out for part of the season, but returned to the Minnesota lineup on Jan. 12.
Minnesota will miss his physical presence in the lineup. He does well at his end of the ice and is known for throwing his weight around. Pateryn knows his role and knows his limitations, but he’s very intelligent on the defensive end.
The Wild are slated to play the Vancouver Canucks in the qualifying round for a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Minnesota is the No. 10 seed while Vancouver is the seventh-seed. The series is slated to start in early Aug. in Edmonton, Alberta.
