Tampa Bay Lightning Comic Captions for 2019-20

Nikita Kucherov

When it comes to offence, Nikita Kucherov is right there placing seventh in the NHL. While last season he was the downright leader with an amazing 128 points, he’s no slouch this season. With 33 goals and 52 assists good for 85 points in 68 games, his points per average of 1.25 is exceptional. For the 58th overall selection by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2011 NHL Entry draft, Kucherov has exceeded expectations.

His performance thus far has earned him a lucrative eight-year $76 million contract that he signed in July of 2018. The Russian Federation native is one of the fastest skaters in the league and knows what to do with the puck when it’s on his stick. He possesses a wicked shot which is accurate with a 14.9 percent career accuracy rate. When he’s on the ice the Lightning usually has control of the puck with his Corsi For being 57.1 and his Relative Corsi at 6.9.

While not the biggest player at just 5′-11′, 178 pounds, his speed and stickhandling makes the difference. His one dynamic player and fun to watch.

“Way to go, Erik, now you’re only 19 goals behind me for the team lead. Keep scoring like that and you can afford some dental work.”

Andrei Vasilevskiy

Much of the success enjoyed by the Lightning can be attributed to their netminder, Andrei Vasilevskiy. He has established himself as a real winner between the pipes. Vasilevskiy has led the NHL in wins over the last three seasons with 44, 39, and 35 victories. He has gathered a .917 save percentage to go along with a strong 2.56 goals-against average for 2019-20. When you have a goalie who performs that well your chances of winning hockey games increase significantly. He is the Vezina Trophy favourite going forward.

It may seem that when you have a great offensive team like Tampa Bay (3.47 goals a game) that the goalie’s performance wouldn’t matter as much. Vasilevskiy keeps his team in the game with spectacular saves and he plays a good portion of the games, appearing in 52 of the team’s total 70 games this season.

Without a doubt, Vasilevskiy is in the midst of a great NHL career.

Victor Hedman

Every great team has a top-performing goalie, a skilled forward, and a defenceman who does the rest. Victor Hedman was voted the best defenceman in the league during the 2017-18 season. Standing 6′-6″, 223 pounds he can overpower forwards every chance he gets. He has been a strong power-play contributor with four goals and 18 assists on the man advantage this season.

Hedman signed an eight-year, $63 million pact in July of 2016 and he’s worth every penny of it. He had tallied 11 goals and 44 assists for 55 points in 66 games before play was suspended. Hedman seems to be in the run most every season for the Norris Trophy awarded to the best defender in the NHL.

He was selected as the second overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and has exhibited play which turns heads and helps win games constantly.

He defines winning and shows great leadership qualities.
