Jonathan Toews Scores Three Power-Play Goals in One Period

2010: The Chicago Blackhawks captain ties a record for three power-play goals in the second period. Toews collects five points in a 7-4 Game 4 win over the Vancouver Canucks. He’s the fifth Chicago player to get five points in a post-season game.

Chicago would go on to take the series in Game 6 after winning all three road games at GM Place in British Columbia. The Blackhawks would eventually win their first Stanley Cup since 1961 after beat the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.

Other Notable Events

1972: Bobby Orr scores twice and sets up another goal as the Boston Bruins beat the New York Rangers, 3-2, in Game 4 of the Final. Orr gets to 22 points.

1983: Mike Bossy‘s four goals carry the New York Islanders to their fourth straight Stanley Cup Final. The Isles would beat the Bruins, 8-4, to win the Wales Conference Final in six games.

1985: The Edmonton Oilers remain unbeaten in the playoffs and set a record of 12 post-season wins in a row. Jarri Kurri scores three goals in a 7-3 victory in Game 2 of the Campbell Conference Final over the Blackhawks.

1993: It’s a huge night for Wayne Gretzky in the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 win over Vancouver. Gretzky scores twice to reach 100 post-season goals in the Game 3 win in the Smythe Final. He also gets his record-breaking 19th game-winning goal in the playoffs.

2000: Andy Delmore is the first rookie defenceman to score three goals in a playoff game. He leads the Flyers to 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 of the Eastern semifinals.

2006: Ilya Bryzgalov becomes the seventh goalie in NHL history to have three consecutive playoffs shutouts. His 22 saves lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-0 Game 2 win over the Colorado Avalanche in the West semis.

2010: Mark Recchi is the oldest player to score multiple goals in Boston’s 5-4 Game 4 overtime loss to Philadelphia. Recchi is 42 years and 93 days old.

2012: Brad Richards and Marc Staal score as the Rangers rally past the Washington Capitals, 3-2, in OT. It’s the first playoff game to be tied in the final 10 seconds and won within the first two minutes.
