Winnipeg Jets sign Dylan Samberg

The Winnipeg Jets have signed prospect Dylan Samberg to a three-year entry-level contract, worth an annual average value of $1,175,000 million. This contract will start next season and carries him through the 2022-23 season.

Dylan Samberg Signs With the Jets

The 21-year old left-handed defenceman was originally drafted by Winnipeg in the 2017 NHL draft. Drafted 43rd overall in the second round, Samberg just wrapped up his junior year at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

While at Minnesota-Duluth, Dylan Samberg has built up quite a resume. Not only is he a back-to-back national champion with the bulldogs. He also came off he’s career-high in points before the season was cut short. In just 28 games, Samberg record one goal and 20 assists for 21 points. In this shortened season, Samberg was also second on the team in assists.

Overall, Samberg finished his three-year career with the University of Minnesota-Duluth playing in 109 games. In those games, he recorded nine goals and 44 assists for 53 points. He also recorded 96 minutes in penalties.

Looking Ahead

Samberg has quite a high ceiling. He has already proved on multiple stages that he has what is required to take that next step. In back-to-back seasons, Samberg was apart of a National Championship winning team. In between that, he also managed to make team USA’s under-20 world junior team.

During the 2018 tournament, he contributed to America’s bronze medal win with four points in seven games. Then again in 2019, Samberg had two assists in seven games. Later finishing the tournament with a silver medal. Quite the trophy collection this young man has already started. It seems safe to say the sky is the limit for the young defenceman.
