Florida Panthers Trade Vincent Trocheck to Carolina Hurricanes

Vincent Trocheck

The Florida Panthers have traded forward Vincent Trocheck to the Carolina Hurricanes. The return being Lucas Wallmark, Erik Haula, and two prospects according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun. Now, the two prospects have now been identified as Chase Priskie and Eetu Luostarinen.

Vincent Trocheck Traded

This trade comes as a bit of a surprise as Florida is trying to make playoffs. Also, the Canes are a team they are competing against. However, they clearly feel a change was needed to get this team going. In Trocheck the Hurricanes get a solid centreman. He has 36 points in 55 games played this season and over his career, he has 282 points in 420 games played.

Trocheck suffered a devastating ankle injury two years ago and he has had some troubles coming back at times. However, he is still a very useful player. He should fit Carolina’s system very well. He has some speed and can play smart as well. Trocheck was drafted in the third round at 64th overall back in 2011 by the Panthers. He has only played for the Panthers in his career. Trocheck also has three more years left on his deal at 4.75 million cap hit.

Going Forward

Still, this move is very interesting. Haula and Walmark are both solid players but neither are as good as Trocheck. A possibility is that Florida is acquiring assets to try and get a defenceman. It is possible one or both of the prospects and maybe one of those players are used to do just that. One thing is for sure, their activity isn’t done as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches. Today will be a very busy day, so make sure to stay tuned into LastWordOnHockey for all of the trades.
