Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice announced that Adam Lowry would be out at least a month after suffering an upper-body injury in the Jets 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

Adam Lowry Out at Least a Month with Upper-Body Injury

Lowry sustained the injury with 16 seconds left in the first period after taking a hit from Drake Caggiula. Caggiula was assessed a minor penalty on the play for interference. Lowry was slow to get up and you could tell he was in discomfort. He left the game and did not return.

In 47 games this season, Lowry has scored four goals and added six assists for 10 points.

Lowry was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the third round, 67th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

What This Means for the Future

Losing Lowry is a big loss for the Jets. Lowry is one of the most important penalty killers on the Jets and is a solid shut down player. While he does not put a ton of points on the board, he does a solid job shutting down opposing team’s top offensive players and is a heart and soul type of player. His gritty in your face style of play will certainly be missed in the Jets lineup as they try to push for one of the final playoff spots in the Western Conference.

With Lowry out, Jansen Harkins will draw into the lineup for the Jets. Harkins has spent most of the season with the Manitoba Moose where he has been lights out. In 30 games, the 22-year-old has scored seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points. He has produced two assists in nine games with the Jets this season.

The Jets next game will be on Tuesday where they will play visitors to the Carolina Hurricanes.
