The Vegas Golden Knights have announced that forward William Karlsson will be out week-to-week with an upper-body injury. Recently recalled Nicolas Roy is expected to take his place in the lineup.

Golden Knights William Karlsson Out Week-to-Week

It’s uncertain as to when Karlsson sustained the injury and the Golden Knights did not elaborate on it other than saying he would be out week-to-week. Thursday’s game against the Ottawa Senators will make the first game that Karlsson has missed since joining the club out of the expansion draft.

In 49 games this season, Karlsson has scored 10 goals and added 24 assists for 34 points. He has been a key contributor to the Golden Knights offence scoring 168 points in 213 games since joining the club in 2017.

Over his career between the Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Golden Knights, Karlsson has racked up 95 goals and 218 points in 396 games.

Karlsson was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round, 53rd overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Moving Forward Without Wild Bill

Filling the shoes of Karlsson will be tough as he has been one of Vegas’ most important players since the club was formed in 2017. The one they call ‘Wild Bill’ saw his offensive production skyrocket once he joined the Golden Knights. He scored 43 goals in his first season. While his offensive production dropped off a bit in year two, he still put up a respectable 24 goal campaign.

While the Golden Knights will miss that offensive production, Nicolas Roy will certainly do his best to fill his shoes. Roy has managed to put up decent numbers in both the AHL and NHL this season. He has scored six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 24 games with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. He’s also registered two goals and three assists in 11 NHL games earlier in the year. Respectable numbers from the Vegas rookie. He will look to add to these totals on Thursday against the Senators.
