It was announced on Tuesday that New Jersey Devils forward Nico Hischier will replace teammate Kyle Palmieri on the Metropolitan Division roster for the upcoming All-Star Game. Palmieri was ruled out of the mid-winter showcase with a broken foot.

Nico Hischier Going to All-Star Game
Hischier is on h is way to getting career-highs in goals and points. The former top overall pick of the 2017 NHL Draft has 12 goals and 28 points through 40 games. He as a Corsi for of 47.3 and a relative Corsi of -0.2.
The 21-year-old has only played for the Devils in his three-year NHL career. Hischier has scored 49 goals and dished out 78 assists for 127 points in 191 career games.
The Nathers, Switzerland native will be making his All-Star Game debut. In the past month, he’s picked up seven goals and 12 points in his last 13 games.
The NHL All-Star weekend will take place Jan. 24 and 25 in St. Louis.
What It Means
The Devils have been hit hard by injuries as Palmieri, MacKenzie Blackwood and others have forced them to miss time. However, the Devils did pick up back-to-back wins over top teams like the Washington Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It’s been a hectic season for the club as they fired former head coach John Hynes and did the same to general manager Ray Shero on Jan. 12. The Devils had a world of expectations and were a dark horse pick to challenge for a playoff spot. New Jersey also dealt their superstar Taylor Hall to the Arizona Coyotes.
The All-Star Game appearance is a good reward for Hischier, who has really picked up his play in the last month. He signed a long-term deal on Oct. 18 as he signed a seven-year, $50.75 million deal to stay in Newark. Hischier would have been a restricted free agent this off-season.
