 Jack Hughes Injured

Entering Thursday’s game against the Islanders, the Devils were planning on holding Hughes out of the game anyway. The Devils consider Hughes day-to-day. However, the team wanted him to skate a little bit during the team’s morning skate. The injury is not considered serious. It is unclear when the injury occurred, but Hughes was shaken up for a bit during the Devils’ previous game against the Boston Bruins. Late in the third period, Hughes went crashing into the boards. He was slow up to get and was favouring his arm. He skated to the bench where the trainers looked at him. Hughes returned to finish the game scoring a goal in the shootout victory over the Bruins.

This is the second injury for Hughes this season. Earlier in the season, he missed several games with a lower-body injury. Since the injury Hughes is starting to come into his own. Through 36 games, Hughes has 16 points (six goals and 10 assists). Even though the points are not there, Hughes’ confidence has never changed. He was selected first overall for a reason.

Going Forward

As previously mentioned, the Devils do not consider this injury serious. It would not surprise anyone if Hughes returned to action on Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche. With Hughes out of the lineup, Kevin Rooney draws back in. Pavel Zacha is taking Hughes’ spot between Miles Wood and Wayne Simmonds. With Rooney centreing John Hayden and Jesper Boqvist.

The Devils also made a roster move on Wednesday, bringing up Louis Domingue from the AHL and sending Gilles Senn back to the minors.
