Vancouver Canucks Quinn Hughes Out With Ankle Injury

Quinn Hughes

The Vancouver Canucks announced that defenceman Quinn Hughes will miss Saturday night’s contest v.s. the San Jose Sharks with an ankle injury. In a corresponding move, the club has recalled Oscar Fantenberg.

Quinn Hughes Out Saturday Night

Hughes sustained the injury in Friday night’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. Hughes fell awkwardly after pivoting from backwards to forwards chasing the puck. He left the game and did not return.

Hughes has been enjoying a magnificent start to his NHL career. In 13 games this season, Hughes has scored one goal and added nine assists for 10 points.

He also recorded three assists in five games to end the 2018-19 season.

Hughes was originally drafted in the first round, seventh overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Bad News for Hughes and the Canucks

This is extremely unfortunate news for Hughes and the Canucks. Hughes has been on fire to start the season and is certainly one of the most impressive rookies thus far. Hughes is currently tied for second in rookie scoring with 10 points, just one behind Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar.

With Hughes out, recently recalled Fantenberg may make his first appearance of the season for the Canucks. Fantenberg was recently on a conditioning loan with the Canucks AHL affiliate Utica Comets. In two games, Fantenberg failed to register a point.

The Canucks will hope their stud defenceman will not miss much time as he currently leads all Canucks defenceman in points and is fifth overall in team scoring. Hughes has looked outstanding quarterbacking the team’s first powerplay unit which sits 11th in the league at 23.2 percent.

The Canucks are currently sitting in second in the Pacific Division with a record of 8-3-2. They will look to get back on track after suffering a 2-1 overtime loss to the Ducks on Friday night.
