The Minnesota Wild have announced that forward Mats Zuccarello did not travel with the team to Ottawa to start their three-game road trip. Zuccarello is out with what the club is calling a lower-body injury.

Zuccarello sustained the injury during the team’s 7-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. Coach Bruch Boudreau stated the forward sustained “bumps and bruises” which will keep the forward out for the upcoming road trip in Eastern Canada.

In four games this season, Zuccarello has yet to register a point.

Over his 10 year career, Zuccarello has scored 114 goals and added 241 assists for 355 points in 515 games.

Zuccarello was signed by the Wild on July 1st to a five-year deal worth $30 million.

Tough Break for the Wild and Zuccarello

This is not the news the Wild needed as the club is off to a dreadful start in the 2019-20 season. The Wild lost their first four games before securing a win against the Senators on Monday. They have been outscored 21-12 over that span. Zuccarello is expected to be a major part of the club’s offence, however, he is off to a slow start. With the term “bumps and bruises” being used, it does not sound like it will be a long term injury.

With Zuccarello out, Ryan Donato will draw back into the lineup. Donato played the first three games of the season where he was also held without a point.

The Wild started their road trip in Ottawa today against the Senators. They will play the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night and finish the road trip in Montreal against the Canadiens on Thursday. They will return home on Sunday to face the Canadiens once again. The club is hopeful to have Zuccarello back in time for that game.
