Carolina Hurricanes Jordan Martinook To Have Surgery

The Carolina Hurricanes announced today that forward Jordan Martinook will have surgery this Friday to repair a “core muscle injury”. The date of return is expected to be 6-8 weeks. However, that will be better confirmed after surgery.

Jordan Martinook To Have Surgery

So far this season, Jordan Martinook has 1 assist in 4 games. The Hurricanes have been off to a great start and while he hasn’t added on the scoreboard, his presence sure is felt. Martinook was named an assistant captain this year and his leadership on that team is obvious. The Hurricanes have been off to a great start this season and will now face their first test of adversity.

In his career, Martinook has played in 333 NHL games. He has 41 goals and 50 assists for 91 points in said games, split between the Arizona Coyotes and Carolina Hurricanes. The Coyotes drafted Martinook in the 2nd round at 58th overall in the 2012 Entry Draft. In the 2017 offseason, Carolina acquired him for Marcus Kruger, a deal that Canes fans are very happy they made.

Going Forward

Moving ahead, the Canes will look to fill in the gap by committee. What they will miss most about Martinook isn’t his stat line but his leadership. Martinook has never scored over 25 points in a season but that doesn’t mean he isn’t valuable.

From an on-ice perspective, the Canes should be able to keep going for the time being. Look for someone like Julien Gauthier to get a shot at cracking the Canes roster as we move into the season. No doubt the Canes will want Jordan Martinook back as soon as possible. Look for someone like Warren Foegele to also get some more ice time on that fourth line.
