Calgary Flames Sign Brad Treliving to Multi-Year Extension

The Calgary Flames have announced that they have signed general manager Brad Treliving to a multi-year contract extension. Treliving’s current contract was set to expire at season’s end.

Flames Extend GM Brad Treliving

Treliving was originally hired as Flames general manager on April 28th, 2014. At the time of his hire, he was serving as Assitant GM for the Arizona Coyotes who were being managed by Don Maloney at the time. Treliving is now entering his sixth season as Flames GM.

During his tenure, the Flames have made it to the playoffs three times. They also had their second-highest point total in franchise history last season. The Flames finished with a record of 50-23-7 for 107 points.

Overall the Flames are 212-163-35 with Treliving under the helm.

After being extended Treliving said; “Thank you to the Flames ownership group, John Bean and Ken King for their confidence and continued support. I’m excited to work with our talented hockey operations staff, coaches and players as we continue on our mission of bringing a Stanley Cup back to Calgary.”

Flames president and CEO John Bean praised Treliving by saying; “Over the past five years, Brad has done an excellent job putting a team together on and off the ice. Continuity is important in this role. Brad has earned the trust and respect of our Ownership Group and our fans. We look forward to continuing our work together as we strive for our ultimate goal; another Stanley Cup championship for the City of Calgary.”

Bright Future for the Flames Under Treliving

Treliving has shown he’s not afraid to make a big move to improve his club. He traded a first-round pick, second-round pick and conditional second to the New York Islanders in exchange for Travis Hamonic back in 2017. He then made his biggest trade since becoming general manager in 2018 when he acquired Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm for Dougie Hamilton, Adam Fox and Micheal Ferland.

Lindholm had a career year in Calgary last season scoring 27 goals and adding 51 assists for 78 points in 81 games.

Treliving has certainly done a great job building the Flames after helping them finish atop the Western Conference last season. Despite getting bounced by the Colorado Avalanche in five games, it was certainly a step in the right direction for the Flames who look to get back in the playoffs for a second straight season.
