Jimmy Schuldt Signs With Vegas
The former St. Cloud State University product provided an assist in his only NHL game of his career. He signed with the club on April and made his NHL debut three nights later. His possession numbers were 51.4 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -12.5 in that one game.
The defenceman went undrafted out college and signed with Vegas after his college career ended.
The 24-year-old played in 39 games for the Huskies in the NCAA last season. He scored 10 goals and 25 assists for 35 points. The Minnetonka, Minn. native played in 156 consecutive games for St. Cloud State and was a captain for three years. Schuldt earned NCHC Conference player of the year and defenceman of the year honors for the 2018-19 season.
He recorded 118 points (38 G, 80) for the Huskies, which ranks first among defensemen in school history. Schuldt was named a Hobey Baker Award Finalist during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. He was the only repeat Hobey Baker top 10 finalist.
“This is the organization I want to be a part of,” Schuldt said to the Las Vegas Sun. “The people here are the best in the league in my eyes, and I’m just excited for the opportunity.”
What This Means for the Future
Schuldt was one of the best defencemen in the collegiate ranks and netted an assist in his only game of the season. He’s a solid scorer from the blueline and a good low-cost option for the time being for the Knights, who are up against the cap.
He’ll be competing with Nicolas Hague, Zach Whitecloud, Jake Bischoff and others for a spot as the team heads to Anaheim, Calif., for the Rookie Faceoff.
